Temposonics Cable Outlet Connection, Permanent Sealed Cable Entry

Temposonics sensors with cable outlet connections feature a permanently sealed cable entry where the connection cable is moulded or potted directly into the sensor housing. This provides the highest level of environmental protection and is the preferred choice for harsh operating conditions including subsea, high-pressure washdown, and applications where connector reliability is critical. The cable outlet eliminates the connector as a potential point of failure, ingress, or corrosion.

    Advantages of Cable Outlet

The cable outlet connection offers several advantages over plug-in connectors:

    • Maximum sealing, No connector interface means no potential ingress path for moisture, oil, or contaminants. The cable entry is typically rated IP68 or higher.
    • Vibration resistance, No connector to work loose under vibration. The cable is mechanically secured to the sensor housing.
    • Corrosion protection, No exposed metal contacts that can corrode in aggressive chemical environments.
    • Simplified installation, No need to source and stock compatible mating connectors.

The trade-off is that sensor replacement requires disconnecting and reconnecting the cable at the controller end (or in a junction box), which takes slightly longer than a plug-in connector replacement.

    Cable Specifications

Cable outlet Temposonics sensors are supplied with a fixed cable length, typically available in standard lengths from 2 metres to 30 metres. The cable is shielded and designed for the specific interface (SSI, analog, etc.).

For applications requiring longer cable runs, the sensor cable can be terminated in a junction box and extended with standard cable. Emolice can advise on the maximum cable lengths for each interface type and recommend appropriate junction box solutions.

    When to Choose Cable Outlet

    Cable outlet is recommended for:

    • Harsh environments, Subsea, high-pressure washdown, aggressive chemicals, extreme temperatures.
    • High vibration, Engine test cells, off-highway mobile equipment, stamping presses.
    • Applications where connectors have historically been a reliability problem.
    • Permanent installations where the sensor is not expected to be replaced frequently.
    • Environments where IP68+ sealing is required.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose the cable length on a cable outlet sensor?

Yes. Cable outlet sensors are available in standard lengths (typically 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 metres). Custom lengths may be available on request, contact Emolice for details.

Is the cable outlet more reliable than a connector?

In harsh environments, yes. The sealed cable entry eliminates the connector as a point of failure. However, sensor replacement takes slightly longer as the cable must be reconnected.

Can I extend the cable on a cable outlet sensor?

Yes. The cable can be extended via a junction box. Use shielded cable with the same specification as the original and maintain proper grounding practices.
