Temposonics M16 7-Pin Connector, Legacy and Retrofit Connection

Pin Assignment

The M16 7-pin connector on Temposonics sensors uses the following pin assignment for SSI applications:

• Pin 1: Supply voltage (+)
• Pin 2: Clock+ (RS-422)
• Pin 3: GND
• Pin 4: Data+ (RS-422)
• Pin 5: Shield / FE
• Pin 6: Clock− (RS-422)
• Pin 7: Data− (RS-422)

The pin assignment is functionally similar to the M12 8-pin, with the eighth pin omitted. For analog applications, the pin assignment differs, consult the Temposonics technical documentation or contact Emolice for the specific pin-out for your sensor variant.

Retrofit and Upgrade Compatibility

The primary use case for the M16 7-pin connector today is in retrofit applications. When upgrading from a legacy R-Series or G-Series sensor to the R-Series V, specifying the D84 connection code allows the new sensor to mate directly with existing M16 cabling, avoiding the time, cost, and disruption of recabling.

This is particularly valuable in:

• Large machines with sensors installed in difficult-to-access locations.
• Multi-sensor installations where recabling all sensors simultaneously is impractical.
• Time-critical replacements during unplanned downtime where every minute of machine stoppage is costly.
